Twitter’s Black Monday

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard that a number of high-profile accounts on Twitter were hacked earlier today.  Here’s the link to all of the coverage on TechMeme.  Obviously this is not a great day for Twitter and it’s on the heels of a phishing scam that hit Twitter over the weekend (according to Twitter the two events were unrelated).

All of this negative press will hopefully convince Twitter’s senior management and investors that they need to continue to step up their anti-spam / anti-phishing efforts.  Twitter was a break-out success in 2008 but if the news that we saw the past few days continues to happen on a regular basis, all of this success could be short-lived.
